TIG CEO Dmitry Gavrilin and Acting Head of the Department of Industry in Chukotka autonomous region Viktor Bochkaryov agreed on the environmental action plan for the TIG’s Russian subsidiaries of Beringpromugol LLC and Port Ugolny LLC. This comprehensive plan was made up by the specialists of the Company, who included into it all the proposals received in February from all interested parties. TIG aims to implement some measures on improving the environmental safety at Project F and transshipment operations at the Beringovsky port on its own expense.
The so called “road-map” foresees the continuity of work on external and internal environmental audits, air monitoring, as well as water and noise levels supervising, and land reclamation. TIG is to reconstruct coal storage sites near the Beringovsky port with the aim of eliminating storm and meltwater runoff from the territory of coal warehouses. In 2020, pilot tests will be conducted on the use of the reagent for dust removal on the technological road. If result is positive, then other parties can use it on other dusty roads of Chukotka. Also, special tents will be used to cover stockpiles of coal depots to exclude dusting. TIG plans the reconstruction of conveyor-type equipment and an irrigation system until 2022.
Considering that the reconstruction of the Beringovsky port, built in the 1940s, was carried out in 1976 last time, these measures will significantly improve the environmental situation in the region and provide the practical solution of the strategic tasks established by the country.
