10.05.2019

TIG’s management company, “Beringugolinvest”, and Regional Public Organization “Association of indigenous small-numbered peoples of Chukotka” started their discussion on several projects of social development of Chukotka indigenous peoples in Beringovsky. All proposals have objectives to maintain native culture, sports and environment protection.

Specially established Working Group considers projects and approves them. Working group was set up in accordance with the Agreement of Cooperation between both organizations. It includes coal companies’ representatives and delegates from the association.

The ecological proposal aims to clean up the bank of Lakhtina lagoon near Beringovsky from the bulky garbage. With TIG's assistance and local labour force, Nadezhda is hoping to clean the coast. These activities will be implemented with the guidance from the Chukotka Committee on Natural Resources and Ecology as well as with the “Berinpromugol’s” Department on environment protection and safety engineering.

The second project is about creating a children theatre performance “K,ergav”. The funding will be directed towards various fabrics and costumes decorations, teaching kids their native Chukchi language and maintaining Chukchi culture and develop art skills.

Beringovsky indigenous community also submitted a proposal on cultural and sports festival “Einev”. “Beringpromugol” has been sponsoring this festival since 2017. The project is youth-oriented and targets to revive lost values of local spiritual and material culture. It also supports life without alcohol and life among different ethnicities in peace and harmony.

Members of the Working Group approved the above proposals.
