On Thursday, June 11, the members of the regional branch of ROO AKMNCH in Beringovsky, together with the deputy head of the city administration Anna Usmanova and the executive director of “Port Ugolny” Sergey Efanov, went to the port territory to assess the state of the environment in the port area.

“This trip is part of our annual tradition: in June we go to the port, and in July – to the quarry. This year we started from the port: demonstrated the work of the coal conveyor and showed our new barges. Representatives of the Association of Chukotka indigenous peoples saw the port activity and our improvements towards the environment, - commented Sergey Efanov. This year, the company buys special tents to cover coal stacks following the example of the colleagues from South Korea.

According to the members of the association, they remained positive after visiting the port: "the water inside the port and the sea is clean, the air is dustless, the snow on the hills near the port is not polluted. The high sides of the new barges prevent the spread of dust." Elena Ivanovna Tretinnikova, the Deputy Chairman of the regional branch of the association, shared that “there has been a positive trend towards improving the environmental problems”: there is no garbage and coal on the coast line, snowmelt runoff near the coal piles are at least temporarily fenced off and covered with sand and earth, which prevent them getting into the sea until July - this month the construction of the water-drainage system is planned.”

“Beringpromugol” and “Port Ugolny” are implementing an environmental action plan, which was signed in March by the heads of TIG and the Department of Industry of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug.
